Free Society. Any social order that is based on mutually agreed upon principles and moral codes where all involved are free to live as long as they do not violate the Liberties of others.

Sounds scary to many who are used to being taught in public schools that most people are basically evil and must be constrained by a powerful central power.

Fact is, if these people would evaluate how they actually live, they’d find they are closer to a Free Society than they realize.

What are the basics for a Free Society?

  • voluntary, mutual agreement to an underlying moral code
  • a market free from central control, where the participants can voluntarily interact with each other for mutual benefit
  • private property rights
  • Liberty to live as one wishes without violating another’s right to do the same

These are the basics. The idea is that anything that is mutually agreed upon voluntarily is the foundation of that society.

Not so scary now?

One of the foundation principles of this is the Non-aggression Principle. It’s a foundation principle because the rest of the societal order is built upon it.

The Philosophy of Liberty is the set of principles that guide how we interact with other human beings. If we live by these principles alone, we’d have a solid society, founded on moral principle. We’d also find that our various moral codes would conflict less with each other.
